TRYOUTS FAQ
What should I bring?
Cleats (sneakers will suffice if you don't own cleats), a light shirt, a dark shirt, water (our team safety dork recommends a minimum of 2 liters), and a sunny disposition.
What if I've never played on a club team before?
Not a problem! Turnstyle is all about having fun and being part of an amazing community, all while developing our ultimate skill set. Club experience (or high-level organized frisbee experience) is not a prerequisite for trying out or for ultimately (pun intended) joining our team! We're looking for folks who are invested in improving their frisbee skills and making friends while they do it.
How do I get there if I'm...
driving? There is parking on Randall's Island, very close to the fields! Take the RFK Bridge and get off the Randall's Island exit.
walking from Manhattan? There is a footbridge at the equivalent of 103rd St, all the way over on the East Side. Cross the bridge and follow the walking loop up the hill and to the left, towards Hell Gate Circle.
walking from Queens? Take the RFK Bridge Trail from Astoria - it spits you out across the circle from the field.
walking from the Bronx? Take either the RFK Bridge Trail or Central Road from the South Bronx, then walk straight for a very long time.
walking on sunshine? No idea. Also how are you doing that? I am v jealous.
taking the bus? The M35 leaves from East Harlem and loops across Randall's Island. Get off the bus the stop after Icahn Stadium.
taking the subway? Take the Q or the 6 to 96th Street, then follow the directions for walking from Manhattan.
What if it rains?
We're waterproof, and so are frisbees! Tryouts are on, rain or shine. In case of thunderstorms or other severe weather, we may shift tryouts to the date of our first practice, which is Sunday, May 6, 2018, from 9:30am - 12:30pm.
